NEURAL TUBE AND SPINA BIFIDA PREVENTION AND CARE INITIATIVE
In 2002, OMNI-Net teams demonstrated the persistence of an elevated frequency of Spina Bifida and related neural tube defects disorders (SB – NTD) in regions of North-West Ukraine. This fact prompted a prevention initiative. To reduce the ongoing epidemic, OMNI-Net Ukraine petitions the Ukrainian Parliament to introduce legislation mandating folic acid flour fortification, a public health measure demonstrated to be safe, effective and affordable by numerous governments during the past several decades.
